This overall style of knife comes from Africa and all over the islands of Southeast Asia and Micronesia. Every culture and region has its own variety; there are probably hundreds of them. Very many "tribal" knives were brought back after WWII by GIs who served in the Philippines and surrounding areas so that's a more likely origin than Africa but also, there were small newsprint catalogues available during the 1950s & '60s that sold primitive weapons from all over the world. I don't have a specialty book on this subject but there is probably one out there as well as web sites with numerous examples.
