This one I do love -- a lot. It is a very smooth vessel with a lizard on the top. I bought it in Canada about 3 hours north of Toronto at a Goodwill. I love the look of it and the smoothness of the clay. I realize I am a real sucker for super smooth clay. The lizard is quite well made, it seems to me. I have been totally intrigued by the numbers incised into the bottom and have had fantasies that it was an ancient piece that was somehow once owned by a serious collector who numbered his pieces blah blah blah. I had a friend who is an art appraiser look at it. She doesn't specialize in pottery but didn't think it looked too old. We haven't spoken since. (Just kidding).
Any thoughts?
Also, I am really wrestling poorly with these categories -- apologies.
Lovely! Partial too to the smoothness of the clay and... the lezard too (another critter collecting area of mine!)
Thanks Kyratango.
stunning!! great art!!
Thanks for the loves Sean, Nevada, Aura, Windwalker, Glassiegirland Getthatmonkeyoutofme. Much appreciated.
Looks like it might be a peruvian vessel
I think you are right Getthatmonkeyoutofme. The pre-columbian Chimu pieces looked right to me but I think they are always black. I'll keep checking around Peru though. Thanks!
