You can do a google image search for carved back throne chair, however I did that and ones with figures on the back are rare. I admit my memory is completely fried, and I can't remember what to call the man on the back. He looks benevolent, no sword or weapons of mass destruction. But if I could think of a suitable descriptor for him, maybe that would narrow down the search.

I'm not advocating that he is a 'real' person, i.e Robin Hood (poor example), but a generic name for his type of clothing, hair etc. is alluding me. Arghhhh! Is a Courtier?

      Hi
      And welcome to CW.
You can add 3 more picture on your post, just do an edit, and add, up to you, more pictures = more clue to other members, the side should be nice to see also, underpart, etc....
Like bb2, I love to see the tenon and mortaise on this chair in addition wood pegs, beautiful woodworking, also the to see the top part in one piece, for sure this not made by an apprentice.
This look like golden Oak, the solid seat is nice to see to, regarding the figure, very sure this chair don't being older than the figure in the back, because this Knight is from the 17 century, Gillian have the right idea to do a Google image search.
      Absolutely love this chair.

      Regards
      Alan

The cavalier may have his hand on the top of the scabbard, but not on the grip & the sword is cased(in the scabbard). I'll trade 2 goats & 3 copper bracelets for it ! Welcome to CyberAsylum, aka CW. I'm the shy silent one.

@elindy, it's to bad that someone scrape the original colour on this chair, this will add lot more value if the colour still on the piece, :-/

      LOL bb2
I will trade on top of your offer, 2 wool blanket and 1 sandstone sculpture, both are from the north of Quebec.
So we can share this throne, you use it for 2016, and I use it in 2017 and so on, what about that ;-D

      Regards
      Alan

looks.... Gothic / Revival style... to me ...and I see if i can find one of my older books ...Love the swashbuckler look of the fella ,like one of the Musketeers..you can make a tent of plastic over it and put a cup of ammonia in there and it will give it the age look.or patina just keep an eye on it so it doesn't get to dark...

Thank you it's most appreciated I have looked at a load of throne chairs even trying to see patterns that are similar and the closest I came to is it maybe made by wainscot only because of that frill look around the bottom of the chair
