From another side of my family comes this "very old" ephemera.
I'm not certain what it is but know from my grandma it came over with my 5th or 6th great grandfather from Baden Baden, Germany around the middle 18th century.
This ancestor would go on to settle in what came to be known as Schell's Bush NY.
Henry the "Twin" Schell (pictured, CDV) is my 4th great grandfather. A long story there.
What is this? Anyone know?
It is a "Lied", aka a song!
Seem to be religious...
Hopefully a German speaking CW friend will be able to say for sure :-)
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=54598225 Just this, you probably know. Henry and his twin were captured by Indians. What a great read. The page is a religious hymn, The Holy Night something..........
Hey folks, I really appreciate the information. I thought it was a hymn. the term Lied is new to me. When I translate the word it says it means "Log" however.
Yes indeed slackjack, I know the story well. That photo of Henry the Twin is probably the only one still in existence, that I know of. Says on the back "taken prior to 1846".
Appreciate the comments! Thanks
The notation on the back of "taken prior to 1846" would make your carte de visite (cdv) a copy of an earlier daguerreotype.

That is exactly correct Scott. Probably should have mentioned that. Thanks!
Wish I had the dag.
