I don't know anything about this necklace but I really like it. It looks vintage for sure but I cannot date it because there are no marks on it and I have not found one like this on line yet. The toggle closure is confusing me a bit, though. I was thinking that it could be as early as the 1920 - 1940's because of the design. It reminds me of some pieces of the Egyptian revival.
I believe it might be made of copper with brass/gold-tone finish. It could be stamped. The black finish looks like enamel.
Even tough the necklace has some wear, I still love it. It will look great in the summer!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking:)
Really nice! Possibly Egyptian revival made in the 1970s. The toggle clasp was the "in" thing at that time.
Thanks, Efesgirl. I was thinking that the closure might have been replaced. It somehow doesn't match the rest of the necklace. The panels look a lot older. But then again, sometimes things are made to look older:)
Efesgirl, I posted this one earlier: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/140701-necklace-bracelet-and-earrings
Even though both are enamel and metal, they two seem to be worlds apart. It is hard to see on the pictures, though.
I did follow your link about the 1970's. You could be correct. I found one very similar in style but I believe the construction is much more solid: http://www.carries-couture.com/#!product-page/zyg3x/cef4c52e-9687-594c-16ce-1e2cd304fb90
What do you think, Efesgirl?
Oooooh, really like this one. [;>)
