Glass from Taiwan was, much like Japanese glass, cheaply imported to Western countries and so has suffered with the "cheap" tag since.
I am not saying glass like this is art glass, or extra special, but it is attractive and nicely made.
I think these two pieces, probably from the same factory, were made in the 1980s after Taiwanese glass had been in steady production for some decades and had developed good tooling and techniques.
These are both moulded clear glass that has been given a coloured and slightly iridescent crackle finish.
The vase has had handles added by hand probably after crackle heating.
Sweet.
A new collecting area !!!!
Well done you !!!
I love the hexagonal one, with its totally cute handles! Taiwanese glass can be very well made.....
I totally concur, Karen & Peggy. Taiwanese-made SHARP brand knives are just as good, IMHO, as those made in Japan or the US. [;>)
Thanks Vet - I probably should start on Taiwanese glass - it's still cheap and Japanese has moved ever upward. I have just picked up a few bits here and there and researched a bit because of the association with Japan's industry.
It is a cute vase Peggy! Thanks for the love.
I guess NB that knives have taught you to not judge things by their country of make - just look at how well they are made.
I try to do that with glass and when I use a critical eye I find that not all is as people think. Good glass can come from anywhere in the world.
I entirely agree with your last sentence. The rest is fashion and opinions.
Yep. I have seen poor glass from unexpected places too!
So good to hear from you Ivonne. All OK?
Thanks,Karen. Thanks to one of CW friends it's OK now :)
