Well, went to a favorite yearly charity/academy sale Saturday and found this lovely piece of glass. It is amethyst color with a nice iridescent finish and, what looks like feathers or that frilly plant that the stems and blades cut the heck out of you, on two sides. Height=6", width at shoulder=approx. 4 1/2"

Anyone have any idea who might have made it? The engraved mark looks like a shield with some initials in it, but, for the life of me, I can't find it!

It is going on the shelf with a couple of other pieces that I've found over the past couple of years, but I would really love to find out who made it and get some history - and, maybe, find some more like it!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I thought so too when I first saw it - and still do. The design on it is great and looks like some form of applied silver. Perhaps someone will come along who recognizes the mark. I would like to find more pieces by this person/maker.

just wondering IF the mark (needs ) to be flipped or reversed ? I am going see if that makes a difference.......Nice vase!!

antiquerose - I tried that and, to me, it made even less sense. Even tried to find letters in the top 5 'spikes'. But, I keep trying. Thanks for the thought, though!

SEAN68 - I think so, as well. I still can't figure why it was sitting there waiting for me. :-)

The listing here says it has the same hallmark though doesn't show it, the label indicates it's made in Germany, hope that is of some help.

katherinescollections - Thank you, very much. Your thoughtfullness is most appreciated. It would have been nice had they shown the mark but from the area of the bottom that the do show, it would seem to be a different manufacture. I will have to check further into it, though. It might be something like Murano, where there are many makers under the same general name, as Murano is a place of glass makers, and many use a generic label.

Hmmmmmm..........Could someone contact that Ebay seller to SEE if they have a pic of the mark to be if that leads us to a conclusion?? Never hurts to try

If you wanted to also post the mark and the item over here, SEE if they have any ideas. Worth a shot as it is a lovely vase

antiquerose - Thank you for the forum addy. I hadn't gotten that far yet. I will see about posting a request for help when I get home tomorrow afternoon. I haven't tried asking a question of a seller on ebay in years, but I will see if I can, and hopefully get an answer, tomorrow, as well.

You help and suggestions is appreciated and should I find out anything of help, I will post it here. :-)

Ivonne - Thank you for taking the time to post. I can see many points that might be shared with the Ferdinand von Poschinger pieces, though the Benedict pieces seem to share points with Kosta Boda. Also, the Ferdinand pieces seem too 'pretty' in comparison. The family crest is somewhat similar but what signing of the pieces I could find isn't close to what this one has on it.

I wish I could post another photo - I would put one of the entire bottom and you could see the difference in style of finishing.

You can add another photo, walkabout, there is an edit button to the left, click that, then add another image.

katherinescollections - Thank you for the hint about editing. I guess I'm a little off today because it took me 15 minutes to finally find it. :-) Oh, and that piece that you mentioned with the link - it looks like one of the pieces I found when researching the poschinger link above - a Benedict von Poschinger, I think.
    16. walkabout01, 9 years ago
Update: A return e-mail signed Benedikt Freiherr Poschinger says that the vase is of their manufacture and dates to around 1982.

      Thank you, one and all.
