Just picked this beautiful clock up on Saturday at a garage sale for only 25 dollars. a great find. It is cast iron as far as I can tell. Very heavy Wondering if anyone knows what the name of it is and from what year?? There is some damage to the enamel, someone tried cleaning it with a spray that ate away the enamel in spots. Also the face is missing it's glass cover.
You have found an Ansonia "Chatham" from circa 1914. Even with the issues, you did well for $25! Does it still run? Probably needs some attention. Antique clocks left languishing on the market usually do. I do not see another example of this model online and have not seen it before so it probably doesn't come on the market very often. These black enameled iron case mantel clocks can clean up very nicely. The baked on enamel is usually pretty tough but like anything else it won't stand up well to abuse. Treat it as you would an automobile's finish and you should do fine. Be sure to wax it when you're done cleaning it up to prevent (or at least slow down) rust and corrosion of any areas where the paint has been damaged. Thanks for sharing your pick with us and welcome to the CW Website!
P.S., if that solves your mystery, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your post. I collect Solved Mysteries! :) Thanks.
