My family has had this clock as long as I can remember, and recently, I've become much more interested in it. My dad has always said its a Seth Thomas from 1852, but I'm pretty sure he's wrong about the year because the label for this clock is on the bottom and not on the door. The label says it's a "No. 14 Tambour," but I can't find any information about it online. Anything would be helpful. Thank you!

      Hello Rose,

      Welcome to Collectors Weekly!

My reference (TDL) has the following to say about the Seth Thomas Tambour 14 - 1922, " Mahogany case. Eight-day movement, hour and half0hour strike. Gilt sash with silvered mat. 5-inch convex dial and glass. Height 9 inces. Base 13 1/2 inches. Originally listed for $20.00. " (Equivalent to about $280 in 2016 when adjusted for inflation)

It looks like your heirloom didn't or doesn't currently have a silvered dial so the face may not be original. The hands do match those illustrated in my reference book.

Here's a webpage with a different reference book except which details a Seth Thomas Tambour 14: https://books.google.com/books?id=GQ0fAQAAMAAJ&pg=RA4-PA26&lpg=RA4-PA26&dq=seth+thomas+tambour+no.+14&source=bl&ots=Rq00zu9guT&sig=DPmS2eKYAJmFGYvy0h9y6NXVpAc&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj8786ui9XMAhVIOj4KHX4EDWsQ6AEIVDAM#v=onepage&q=seth%20thomas%20tambour%20no.%2014&f=false

Hope that helps solve your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your posting.

Thanks for sharing your heirloom with us.

P.S. note that the posted reference refers to a "White Dial" so your clock is probably still all original. :)
