I have a small collection of paintings and mixed media outsider art.

But my favorite paintings are my mothers and grandmothers work (of course!)

These 3 are original oil paintings by my grandma, Anne.

That's her photo from a scan of a film strip circa 1936. This is the same grandma who created the Watergate sketchbook I had posted earlier.

She's a lovely woman. That carnival painting is FANTASTIC! (Looks like it might benefit from a cleaning?)

Grandma would be happy to hear that. Thanks on her behalf.

Yes, a cleaning would be in order. The colors would be brighter for certain. Appreciate the suggestion Celiene.

Great -- I particularly love the painting of the man with the pigeons.

Thanks on behalf of grandma, Jean.

The man un that painting is my great grandfather Roy. An interesting guy he was. My great grandparents moved to the Isle of Pines (isle de la juventud) Cuba in 1899, where my grandmother was born. They stayed until the great hurricane of 1917 flattened the settlement.

Great grandpa Roy was a grovesman and was good with animals, as the surviving photos of him and his trained squirrels will attest.

What great stories! Now you can go visit Cuba, thanks to Obama! I like all the paintings.

May as well show and tell some photos from the collection of images from Isle of Pines. Some good ones from the old albums. 1899-1917. Will be difficult to pick just 4.

Appreciate the time in commenting, all.

What a beautiful photo as well.

Yeah, the photo is dated (literally, right on the image) yet timeless. It's probably my favorite.

Hope Cuba is able to retain her authentic culture and not succumb to the easy veneer of cheap consumer culture. No?

Before the Revolution, my grandparents used to go there about once a month. Grandma would paint street scenes.

I love her art and can't choose a favourite.
Fantastic photo; she looks so interesting. Strong, intelligent, questioning, beautiful.

Indeed. From a line of independent minded women.

      Very kind of you.
