I got this little black girl cloth doll at a garage sale for $4. The note was tucked inside her dress. Does anyone have an idea if 1933 is the date this doll would have been made? It has the bubble googly wiggly eyes glued in.

It also has wire in the legs and arms. So, they are stiff.

    Thanks!

      Sometimes spelled Golliwog...

      Oh yeah - she authentic.

She's... Oh my! She's sweet! Stupid EBay will not let me sell anymore because they are considered 'racist'. But I can sell stuff using the word 'Picaninny'. Go figure.

Thank you! That is strange about eBay!

This is one example of political correctness run amok. Sad, really.

Would Golliwog glue the eyes in? I read some are sewn in for safety.

She is a homemade doll by a Mother . Not a Golliwog doll . Very nice folk art doll and yes 1933 would be correct age :-)

The glued plastic google eyes were used on many dolls and Teddy Bears in 30's and 40's but your doll is just a wonderful black doll and perhaps made by a Mom because so few black dolls were made in 30's and 40's .

Thanks for the direction! We are hoping to adopt a baby soon.... I will keep these if she is African American and consider selling them if the baby is of another ethnicity. :)

If you should adopt a child please don't let them play with her since eyes are chocking hazard but she is a piece of history to display :-)

She is in the style of a Golli - many were homemade. Google image search antique handmade golliwog.

Many very similar each UNIQUE. Golli was a character in a book.

Google antique handmade picaninny doll. You will find more with the braids.
