This item was in a box in my Grandparents garage. Please help me identify what this is and what it is used for and possibly the age of it. It is 13 1/2" long with metal tips and it is 1 1/2" tall. It has a wooden dowl type piece that pulls up from the middle but doesn't go all the way up. It has a "U" on one end and it has "ACME" on it and "KIRK CO LTD BLACKBURN" and "RIGHT" and "3/3" (I think, it's hard to read this one).

Thank you for the information, I had no idea what that was until I just looked it up on youtube and it's quite interesting. But now I really have no idea why it was in my Grandparents garage. lol

I also have a shuttle like this from my grandparents. I believe mine was used for mending fishing gillnets on the lower Columbia River. - Mark T.
