My great grandparents were part of an American contingent of settlers on the Isle of Pines, Cuba from 1899 until they lost everything in the great hurricane of 1917.
There is a history which I will leave to the individual to look up, about the politics of sovereignty, at this time between the U.S. and Cuba.
My grandma was born there. Great grandma was the school teacher.
I still have the original deed.
It was difficult to pick just 4 images to show as there are so many interesting to choose from.
Fantastic photos.
ENCORE, encore !
I love teh Halloween picture! Maybe you can claim the land back when relations get better? People can now own land in Cuba. Some Cubans, anyway.
I have often wondered just that Celiene. Somehow I don't think so!
Thanks for the comments. I'm glad to share this with people who think it's interesting. Seems not many are terribly as interested as I am LOL!
Look for 4 more, Blunderbuss2.
Tres bon! Looking forward to them. By the way, the land has been socialized & I wouldn't count on making any claims. Lived under the communist & got a feel for the "drift".
Oh well..I would like to see the old Panopticon prison, where Castro was jailed. It's now a national monument and museum.
