I haven't found much at the local goodwill the last few weeks so decided to stop by after the auction yesterday. Walking through the furniture section I saw the label on the back of the nightstand and had to read it twice for it to register. I've never seen a Danish piece at goodwill and quickly pulled it into the back of the blue truck.
Back at the Highland House I had read the many, many advertisements and articles for similar pieces in the line attributed to the Swedish designer Nils Jonsson for Torring Mobelfabrik when I came across the recent thread at DesignAddict.com. The discussion disclosed research by the smart people there that the line was actually built by HNJ Møbler, a company founded in 1911 by Hans Nikolaj Jensen with the design most likely done by a family member.
So contrary to the many attributions stating otherwise, the clean, handsome piece of teak I carried home was made in Denmark but not by HJN Møbler, nor was it designed by Nils Jonsson.
Awesome find!! Love this piece. Looks to be in great condition also. Cute pick of your daughter I'm guessing. ;) Love the cat too!!
