So here's another of my wish list items from the Co-op arrived home. A beautiful 9.5" ruffle top cranberry glass vase engraved "Kralik" with applied green threading. I didn't see anything online like this piece so I'm going on the assumption it's legit. I know signatures can be added to anything and this gives me a bit of doubt . I also understand after a bit of research that Kralik rarely signed their pieces. Czechoslovakia acid marks occasionally but never the full name. I guess someone could have engraved the piece for their own personal ID. I'm sure the glass folks here can set my mind at ease but I'm hoping it's not an imposter. -Mike-

That's awesome mike. It is a bit comforting to know you have that question mark in your head with all of your knowledge. Happy that you are able to stretch out and get what you want also. I really hope the experts here will check it out for you. You certainly deserve it. :)

I have to tell you its the first signature I've seen on a piece of Kralik.

      Nice piece Mike !!

See what the others say as I ( myself ) have not seen a piece that is signed that way ..... but I am still learning too!!

It would be great to have a really good close up of the signature so we can see what sort of tool made it. I don't know what the others would say, but it would seem strange for Kralik to have marked this one piece and no others. I am a little suspicious - I want it to be true, but don't believe it is. However, it is part of this vase's story even if forged - and spurious marks are fascinating in their own way as well.

Thanks for the input Ian. I'll take a closeup picture of the sig and insert it into the last picture. :)

It looks a bit sloppy... When things were signed eg by Loetz with a wheel tool - which this seems to be although I am not sure, you get a very clear fluid signature like the person had been doing it for years. I don't get that impression here, although these things are darned hard to photograph.

If it turns out to be a vibropen tool then most of us would likely have it settled as a modern embellishment. Comparisons of these are on most of the Loetz sites,

Thanks Ian.....as long as this is antique Czech glass and isn't a Chinese modern piece I'm perfectly happy with this purchase. The signature seems more of an interesting mystery than a indicator of who made it. :)

      I agree.
