I think these are called lithographed signs, painted but not by hand. And why do you think it was from 1910?U-M-S was started in 1916.I believe this sign is more like late 30's early 40's.

I was told it was from 1910 but i wasn't sure and I thought that the inconsistency of the paint lines hinted to it being hand painted with a stencil. I'm not at all an expert in theses signs but I know I liked it. I appreciate your help.

U.M.S. was founded in 1916. There was two different cars used in the sign. The first ran from 1916 to about the early 30’s. The 2nd/newer/last car was used from the early 30’s until 1960. This is the newer car. But with the newer car & the word service at the bottom (instead of across the middle/on the car), this would date to the early 30’s, when the sign was “changing over.”

You can “somewhat” date the signs just by looking at the U.M.S. logo. Another way is by looking at the form number at the bottom. The 20’s & 30’s typically have a 3 digit number, ie A-539. Sometime in the 40’s, they hit low, four digit numbers, ie A-1098. The 50’s thru early 70’s were high, four digit numbers, ie A-8900. They stopped using the form number sometime in the early to mid 70’s. Started using a different format/sequence. This signs form number is definitely in line with the logo & early 30’s era.
