Estate sale this weekend dropped another box of Anchor Hockings' Fire King on my doorstep. This set was out in the back shed of a little mid century bungalow with about 20 boxes of newspaper wrapped dishware that was mostly 70's and 80's patterns from Japan.
There were a few depression glass pieces that I would have grabbed in my previous life as a gentleman farmer but now as I unwrapped each of the pieces and saw the soft pale blue in the semi-dark shed I held my breath as I turned it over searching for the familiar Fire King script ... Yep! The 5 turquoise pieces all had the script and the words 'oven ware made in the USA ' mark indicating they were made in the 1950's.
The lone azurite chili bowl (which most have never seen as the majority of azurite collectors swear AH only made this color in the charm and swirl patterns) was simply marked 'Fire King oven ware' indicating it came from the mid to late 1940's. I brought the set home to add to the jadeite/turquoise pieces I picked up earlier this year.
These are great! I love Fire King and have a number of pieces.
Love Fire King, have several pieces myself. These are beautiful, that shade of blue is to die for. Lucky score, thanks for sharing! :)
