    We think it a timing piece of some kind. But it's not a pocket watch, as it goes only up to 10. Where the seconds would be, it goes up to 100. There is no way that I see to wind it or stop/start it. I cannot open the back, either.

    It says A. P. Co. above Made in U.S.A. and Pat Applied For.

    What is it? Is the back a screw-off? That didn't work either. How old is it?

      You have to be able to take the back off so you can set the length of your stride

      Thank you, Tassie Devil. I was also wondering if it might be a pedometer, but I didn't think it'd go by hundredths. You're saying this piece is from 1903, though?
