cool piece.........
WOW!! I love this piece! Have you found anything out yet on it? I bet there is a very interesting story behind this one. :)
Sorry .. I don't know any rules and regulations yet. I found something similar to yours, I know it isn't the same pottery but similar . Am I allowed to share information like this? Its my first day on here so I don't know all the rules and regulations just yet? Can we share info with each other on each others things on here?
Sorry read the rule page a little.. I found a few things could be related and helpful if you haven't looked into this already. One is Janus, A two faced God. I researched a little and basically the myth says In ancient Roman religion and mythology, Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions, thence also of gates, doors, doorways, endings and time. He is usually a two-faced god since he looks to the future and the past. The Romans dedicated the month of January to Janus. His most apparent remnant in modern culture is his namesake, the month of January. The interesting part is the myth about When Romulus and his men kidnapped the Sabine women, Janus caused a volcanic hot spring to erupt, resulting in the would-be attackers being buried alive in the deathly hot, brutal water and ash mixture of the rushing hot volcanic springs that killed, burned, or disfigured many of Tatius's men. This spring is called Lautolae by Varro.
Later on, however, the Sabines and Romans agreed on creating a new community together. In honor of this, the doors of a walled roofless structure called 'The Janus' (not a temple) were kept open during war after a symbolic contingent of soldiers had marched through it. The doors were closed in ceremony when peace was concluded.
I skipped a lot of this story but you can read up on it all if you think it may help or be related. Also there is an artist Named Johnson Tsang, he is amazing and I found one of his pieces that is so very much like yours. Same concept with the faces, the style and everything. The two faces could be two different people. His piece is husband and wife with half faces like your piece in the same ceramic style and concept I think. You will know the piece when you see it cause it is so similar. It may be related to your piece or not I don't know but I hope all the info here is helpful in some way for you. If not related maybe will lead you somewhere that is. Let me know what you think of it all and the different angles this piece could be. And apologies ahead of time if this wasn't helpful :) Good Luck Hun ..
Thank-you windwalker
