Was given to Cornell David Ahern by a general he aided in Vietnam. Cornell David Ahern was my husband's late Grandfather. He always wanted a son, but had two daughters. When my husband was born, Ahern took to him like a son, and passed down many of his military items to him.
This was new when given. The front is similar to a Civil War buckle-- the back is completely different.
Do you know the name of the general who presented this?

Right there with you on that, Scott.
Wow, that's really interesting! Now I'm even more curious if this is real. What's the back suppose to look like on an authentic one?
Do an online search for "Civil War US buckle" and it will be obvious. Originals are lead filled.
