I purchased this pulley from the estate of an antique dealer. This pulley was purchased from the original owners of the Mayflower in 1624 for the use on a smaller vessel. It remained in the Barclay family when they moved to America in the mid 1800s. From there it was kept in the family home for over 150 years. I was finally able to purchase this after the death of a family member. There is a lot of weathering on it, especially on one side. It is completely hand carved. Someone tried to clean it but stopped before they did too much damage. This is the story I was told and based on research I fully believe it. I can't authenticate it in anyway and I am positive no one can but I appreciate any feedback.

If there is no documentation then you just have a pulley and a story. Try the Antique Road Show when they come to your area or call a reputable appraiser in that field. Hope this helps.

Thanks officialfuel. The only documentation I have is the website that states that the wood was sold.

Thank you AR8Jason. According to your sites it is from a ship. This piece was not kept for its historical value. It was used on the boat of the original purchaser. There is only one pulley, the photos are of the different sides. The wheels are very smooth while the inside is more rough.
