Oriental Look Painting on Silk?

This is a pretty painting of a woman sitting carefree in a tree. Her shoe is dangling on the tip of her toes. The fabric is placed over a stiff cardboard backing. Not certain if it is a watercolor or other medium. The fabric has a few threads that have loosened along the top edge.

I am curious as to what and when this was painted and if there is a way to determine if the fabric is silk or not.
