My dad found this clock on one of his outings to antique sales.... which became the highlight of my sons
(now 30 and 27) visits to grandpas house. They both would take turns winding it.

Hello Lisa, welcome to Collectors Weekly. Thanks for sharing your family heirloom with us. You have a Seth Thomas Long Drop Octagon Wall Clock. They were sometimes called "Schoolhouse Clocks". Yours would technically be referred to as a Timepiece since there are no Striking or Chiming Mechanisms. The Timepieces are, generally speaking, more accurate than Striking and Chiming Clocks. It looks like your dad took exceptional care of it.

      What are the dimensions?

Hope that solves your mystery. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" in your listing. If not, ask away. What else would you like to know about it?

      You still there Lisa?

      I'm sorry, I've been MIA!!
Thank you so much Bruce! I'll measure it today.

It does have a Striking piece actually and
Does chime. I wondered if there is an idea of its age?

Hi Lisa, it strikes (or chimes) the hour?! Wow, I only see one winding arbor which normally means just the Time Train. Once we have the measurements I'll see if I can narrow down the circa for you, but the movement is unusual in my experience. It would be nice to see it but I wouldn't want you to partially disassemble the clock just to take a photo of the movement. The measurements should be helpful enough.

I just remember my son winding it and the sounds.
when I get back w measurements I'll let you know .
