This catalog was the brainchild of Stewart Brand [a client of mine]. My dad would pick these up sometimes when i was a kid. We were all big fans of the Foxfire series, and living off the land, so this brings back a whole slew of memories for me. in the last pic, there's a very interesting review of The Job by William S. Burroughs which had just been published. There's also some good pieces on cultivating marijuana - which is pretty early to be so open about it.
CHEECH & CHONG would love this,....... whenever they're straight enough to read it!!! [;>)
Thanks Nevada and Thomas! Stewart Brand is a very interesting fellow! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewart_Brand
He is responsible for pushing Nasa to release the images of earth from space, which he used on the cover of this catalog. the original issue was released in 1968, and this issue one a National Book Award - first one in it's category.
most folks are not aware of the huge role brand played in the development of text messaging, email, etc... i first heard of him when reading Tom Wolfe's Electric Koolaid Acid Test, and then i got to meet him many years later. I occasionally do garden work for him in the most beautiful little cottage you can imagine! he mostly lives on a 1912 tugboat permanently moored in Sausalito.
Sounds like a cool cat. You meant to say "won" an award, didn't you??? :p
yes Nevada! oops!
Cool post:)
thanks Trey!
