This old wooden box is a complete mystery.
As a holder of valuables it's completely useless, as it has four drop-down doors of equal size on brass hinges, (two front & two back) opposite each other, all un-lockable.
The box is about 9" long, 5" wide and 6" high and has been in the family for a few generations.
It appears to be very well made, but the reason for it's manufacture / existence, is beyond me !
someone suggested this was for homing pigeons, but I'm not sure if that's correct since there are no airholes...?
