Jewelry box? Trinket box? Measures about 6 1/2 x 5 inches. My parents collected antiques and this was passed on to me. All wood, painted with beautiful detail. Any info on this item, especially the time period, appreciated.

To me, this has the Eastlake feel to it. I think that's about 1855 to early 1900's. Awesome.

I wouldn't call it Eastlike. My first thought was - a recent piece in Victorian style but don't take my word to the bank - can't be certain without a closer examination and handling. It is definitely hand-decorated with what may be painted gesso over the wood. The shape is lovely, and it does not seem to me to have any particular purpose, so could serve as a trinket box or a gift presentation box for an antiques lover.
