I have this pint size Ball jar. It has side seams and a shoulder seal. It says Ball on the front and MASON'S PATENT 1858. on the back. There is nothing on the bottom, no number. The B in Ball is very different from the standard scripts. The b is made with a continuous loop, the upper loop on the B is very small. The glass looks very old. There is a small, backwards, number 4 printed near the top by the threads. The side seams are prominent. Does anybody have any information about this jar? Thank you!
The mold that made this jar was originally owned by the Port glass company, and was altered/recut to emboss Ball vs Port when Ball bought the factory, probably around 1915. They made these in pint, qt and half gallon. Do an ebay search for Port mason jars, it will show you what the logo looked like prior to changing it. Hope this helps.
