I found this at a Salvation Army and was curious if it is a real naval uniform. What is Carr? Also, does anyone know what the ribbon is for and what the metal / medal is for?
the last thing I want to do is contribute to anyone stealing valor so I don't want to sell it if it is inappropriate to do so. Thanks for your help.
The shirt looks odd-- the "Carr" on the shoulder "rank" is not something I have seen before on a military shirt.
Additionally, the ribbons and badge are on the wrong side.
The badge is the Combat Action Badge (CAB)-- it is awarded to US ARMY personnel and has a similar criteria as the CIB (my profile picture), but it is awarded to NON- Infantry soldiers.
I wouldn't worry about "stealing valor".

Thanks Scott. I appreciate your input.

You can read the name USS Carr in this photo:

The only thing these links prove is that there was a ship, the USS Carr.
Would tend to agree with scott about the shirt.
I'm with scottvez & Gillian: I've never seen a "naval" shirt like this one. The rank insignia on the sleeves, with the "Carr" in fancy script above the chevrons tell me that this is not an authentic U.S. Navy issue uniform. Military personnel are reassigned to different bases and ships all the time. So, the people wearing these shirts would have to remove their sleeve insignias when they got reassigned to another ship or naval base and have new ones stitched on........ I don't think so. [;>)
Thanks Gillian and Nevada -- and thanks again to Scott. You are all terrific -- so speedy and knowledgeable. I very much appreciate it!
LOVE the shirt, though, for what it is. GREAT design and styling! [;>)
Thanks again Nevada
So I've figured out what the ribbons on the ribbon bar are for and they make no sense at all: the one on the left and the right are given by the Coast Guard for rifle marksmanship and the one in the center is given by the Air Force to Military Training Instructors and the badge, as Scottvez pointed out earlier, is a U.S. Army Combat Action Badge. So maybe the shirt is magnetic and it just picked up the decorations when passing a case of military ribbons and medals.
Solved thanks to Scottvez and Gillian and to you too Nevada. It is a mishmash of medals and badges that make no sense at all but it looks very official, sort of. :)
