This brown salt glaze(?) stoneware pot is about 7 1/2" tall ... the top opening is about 3 1/2". Footer same about 3 1/2". Somewhat shaped like a ginger jar. Can not find any similar pieces in my research except stoneware bottles late 1800's. This piece has 12 sides ... top rim and footer look quite crude. Interior bottom looks partially unglazed, oddly. Looking down inside you see rings which make it look like it was hand thrown on a wheel. Rich varigated overall glaze, hard to describe but looks as if it has depth and layers of shades. The ridges of the 12 sides are uneven, some even appear to be crooked. A molded piece(?) ... how was this made? American or--? Age? I hope to learn more about this unusual and fascinating pottery item. Will be grateful for comments from experts! THANKS!

That is really very nice! I tried searching Dodecagon and Dodecahedron terracotta pot, but didn't find a thing that resembles your pot.

Thanks for looking! I see (online) that some fruit jars mid to late 1800's were made with 12 sides but they are more vertical in shape. I think the panels weee tooled after the pot was hand thrown & while the clay was still malleable. Wish I could find more similar pieces for comparison to learn more. Thanks again!!!

JoeyC - you're welcome. I wish I could've found something! I think the glazing on your pot is beautiful.
