this was my grandfather ,i never met him he died in 1972 after a stroke, his name was george s pinckney, from the stories i have heard he was a battilion cheif for LAFD, i have been able to actualy spot him in a few pictures online,but i have a even better photo album that came with the helmet ,along with photos from when he retired in 1972,its a red lafd retired book dated 1937 to 1972, i was even wondering if ther is a lafd muesum i could research his history on ,i havent seen another helmet like this one so i would love to learn more about it
