I picked up this nice clock about 2 yrs old at an old country Auction.I saw it there and had to have it and the price was right.This clock was made in USA for Postal Telegraph by the Hammond Instrument Co.Does anyone out there know anymore imfor on this clock?Also would this be rare and worth very much?Thanks for your imfor!!
Hello I just viewed your posting re: the Hammond Postal Telegraph bichronous clock. these clocks were made in the 30's and were a great clock at that time and still maintain value when of the bichronous was made to run for 15 min with no electricty so as to keep time and self restart. these movements were so badly built that Hammongd smashed them and replace the bihronous movement type the bad one with the Erlier one that are repairable. I am willing to buy your clock to retrofit it with a Stardard movement I am about to have remachined to fit the hand shaft size. This is not a cheep fix but I am trying to come up with a way to save these old clock from the junk heep or being refited with none original types . Sincerly Nat Williams http://www.spokaneclock.com
Hello, I just came across your posting regarding the Hammond Postal Telegraph clock. I own a synchronous version of the same clock which I believe dates back to approximately 1935-1939. It is a great clock and received it as a gift nine years ago. It needed repair about 5 years ago because it would run for a couple of days and then just stop. Before I sought out someone to repair the clock, I was curious as to the value like yourself. At the time, I searched the internet and found that the market value of this clock ranged from $850-1200 depending upon the condition. It is a very unique looking clock and it looks great in my home office wall. Good luck to you and the restoration of your auction find.
Yes, I also own a clock like this. I bought it at an antique store some 35 years ago. It was not running. Since I am an Electrical Engineer I was able to repair it. It was a loose wire by the motor terminal. This clock is nearly original except that the glass broke at one point and I had to replace it with regular window glass. I also lost the 3 screws that hold the back cover. This clock works fine as it is and is now in my large family room.
I have a Railroad telegraph synchronous electric time clock, when restarting after a move it is running backwards
