martika
(149 items)
I bought this on ebay, like the simple design. It was listed as a glass brooch, however I think it is just in very good condition for a glass. I would expect an old faceted glass to have lots of wear, chips. I can't find any what is visible without strong magnifying glass. I was thinking it is maybe a rock crystal? Any thoughts are appreciated. By the way it has some marks, I can't read them. It looks there are some hidden inside the setting, hard to see it, because the glass (or stone) is in the way.
This is beautiful, martika - Edwardian. Oooh, those marks could tell me so much....
That is a gorgeous brooch, martika! :)
Thank you Efesgirl and Katherine for your quick luv/comment. I meant not hallmarks, but rather letters. I will try to decipher them.
no bubbles & cold to the touch of your cheek - crystal.
no rock crystal here.
Thank you CW folks for your info, nice comments and love tap!
Efesgirl - I can clearly read the silver word, maybe there is something else, maybe not - it is in a very awkward place. Anyway the inside of the setting is just too tarnished.
Celiene - it is cold, no bubbles and no scratches, only there is a couple of tiny nibbles on the edge, visible only under 20 x magnification.
Nutsabotas6 - exactly my thoughts !!!
PhilDMorris - I appreciate your knowledge, can you tell me why you think this? So we can learn.
This is a stunning brooch!!
I magnified the pictures and now I can see one small bubble. So it probably will be glass. Thanks anybody for a help and luv xxx
Nice find, and sparkling crystal!
If there is no bubbles in rock crystal, they can occur in lead crystal.
This sparkles too much to be only faceted glass!
:-)
Thank you TassieDevil and Kyratango for your nice comments/info! It makes sense xxx
The small bubble you see may not be a bubble , you get small roundish and elongated inclusions in Quartz , yes if a bubble it will be glass , have another look if it is a perfect round I would say glass , but by the look of your setting it is a band with applied prongs and I would say it is silver , and if so there is a high probability it is rock crystal , Quartz has a hardness of 9 glass is softer , of it scratches glass it is Quartz
Sorry I never read all comments , you have most of the info
Thank you Agate, I just like it too much, i don't want to try to scratch it or scratch something else with it :) And about the bubble, I can see one on very small in the picture. Can you have a proper look at the pictures is it a bubble or inclusion? I'm just baffled how good condition is it in, no scratches, chips, only couple of tiny flea bites.
