There is a number right there - in front of the standing plate. 3734? 3784?
    3. Celiene Celiene, 9 years ago
      I bet it's a Fairbanks.
    4. Celiene Celiene, 9 years ago
They call them rolling platform scales. But yours is also a double beam sliding scale.

I wonder if the scroll was added later?

Here's one - but it look earlier.

The number is 2784 and may be for the base only? It looks very original including the scroll.

Doe sit say it's a Howwe? Here's a Fairbanks with scroll, but the scroll says Fairbanks. Your scroll looks like a house scroll - and of a later period. It looks Arts & Crafts period to me - or Craftsman period.

It says Howe on the beam.

The Fairbanks one is very similar, I'll take a closer look at the scroll for any more clues.

Contact the University of Vermont. They have catalogs from 1870-1960.

Here it is - and I was right - the scroll was added later.

2784 is probably a part number.
    14. Johnny3boy, 9 years ago
I will do that Celiene, the last 2 digits of the patent date are obscured
(Nov. 11 18__) and no marks on the scroll. Thanks for your input!

Wait - it IS #2784. That's the only thing they have in the description. Your weight mechanism looks different, though.

These "Portable Platform Scales with Crown Beam, Agate Bearings and Wheels were shown on page 42 of Howe's 1921 Catalog. The bracket is original to the scale as is the brass platform.

      Weigh Daily!!!
