Memorial Day is an interesting concept. Everyone thinks of soldiers differently. Some have bad memories, be it having been hurt by soldiers or having lost a loved one who was in the military.
Others have good memories, especially of the joy at seeing the ones they love return, and knowing that there are people who don't know us but care for us enough to go out to protect us.
What some don't think of, though, is that many of the good memories we have are indirectly tied to what our men and women in the World's, not just U.S.A.'s, militaries have done for us. These memories we have may only exist because freedom to experience them exists.
We have freedom because many people freely give themselves to defend it every year. We remember the major battles, the victories, the technology, and we teach this in our schools. But today is a day to focus directly on the men and women who died for the world-- the men and women whose names you'll never know-- and today is the day we focus on those who have given their true all to give half the World extended freedoms it might not otherwise have.
So happy Memorial Day to all of the World whose armies seek to prevent your rights from being taken away. It is a happy day because it's a day that reminds us that we are free to live, free to post here, free to have, and free to possibly feel safe in this world of unknowns.
Thank you, Spirit. Eloquently said. [;>)
