Its almost 6 feet tall and I believe it to be an Urn. I always admired it when my grandfather owned it and when he passed I got to take it home. I don't know much about it other than its Mother of Pearl inlay and made of Bakelite. Id like to know if anyone has seen something similar because I would like to know more about it!

      Welcome to CW! :-D

      That is a magnificent piece!!!

I doubt it is bakelite, more probably lacker ware.

Is it light or heavy? A pic of the inside of the cover may help.

You can post up to 4 pics by edit item button.

Hint to post in right position is to crop a little your pics before posting... ;-)

I feel it beeing Korean, because of profusion of inlay.
See a modern example in black lacquer here:

I tried to put it to the right orientation but the website flips it sideways, and I don't know how to correct the website. It is extremely lightweight.
I'll add a picture from under the cover after work.
Thanks for the tip, I never thought about it being Korean.

Slightly crop your pics with your photo editor (on smartphone) before posting, they will be correctly oriented :-)
If it is very light weighted, sure it is lacquer!
      Thanks for the thanks!

i recently learned that a lot of MOP inlay - and the best quality too - is from Korea. this is a beautiful piece!
