    I got this ring from my mom. She had it for any years; it comes probably from my grandmother. I don't recall it ever having a stone and I don't know why she kept it in this condition.

    Because it comes from my mom, I was thinking to have it repaired. The problem is that I have no idea what kind of stone could have been in the original setting. I don't know why, but I seem to be able to imagine an aquamarine looking appropriate.

    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

      An Aquamarine would look super in that setting! My mother has a huge oval aquamarine cocktail ring which she bought in the 1950s.

      If this was my setting, I would have an emerald cut obsidian put in just because I love obsidian.

      Good idea, Efesgirl. I have a few pieces of jewelry that need fixing. I will try to find a good/reasonable jeweler and hopefully get an idea if it makes sense to have it fixed. Because I never saw my mom or grandma wearing this ring, I am not emotionally attached to it. For that reason, anything will do:)

      Thanks, Mary. I wasn't sure if the design of the ring demands a certain stone. I am off for the summer in a few weeks and will see if I can have it fixed then:)

      Can you tell the country of origin from the marks? That could help decide on the stone.

      Lovely setting, the garland around is so nice!
      Any transparent stone would be beautiful in it, ametyst, citrine, aquamarine....

      Davyd286, there are two marks but they are hard to read. my guess is that the ring is German.
