I previously posted this under art glass and then tried to change the category and I didn't have any luck. Let me try again, can anyone give me any clues about this bowl? The material of the bowl and around the base is porcelain I think, the middle of the base is concrete. The white accent lines on the flowers are slightly raised. It is the size you would use for a fruit bowl in your kitchen. Can anyone help?

was this a lampshade, converted to a bowl by adding concrete to it. strange. ??

You got me, that concrete stopper is a strange thing to have on bowl you would use in the house. I can see the lampshade thing, but the bottom doesn't seem right for it. Thanks for the comments.

@hotcultcha my thoughts exactly. I'll fall of my chair of the concrete is original.

Holycowelsie, is the rim ground? or fire polished (smooth and rounded)?

Hi there cosaw, the rim is fire polished just like the rest of it. This is crazy!

Wow - I'm gonna go with lampshade that was totally altered. The bowl did seem terribly shallow. And now, seeing the inside looking down, you can REALLY see it with the rounded edged hole that has been filled.

I'll bet ya any money - it was someone's favorite lamp - or an heirloom that was broken or somehting and they could not bear to part with it, so they converted it to a bowl. That is the only way you would get concrete in the glass cover 'base'. This is the kind of lamp shade a hurricane would have gone through.

And looking at the third picture - you can see the flowers are right side up. And looking at pic 1 - it does not look completely even. (It may just be the angle of the photo.)

No matter! Reuse is a great thing, and this is a BEAUTIFUL example!

Here's one that is the SAME shape - and came like that. I mean, not cut.

What a brilliant idea to make a pretty painted one into a bowl!

Wow, what a wealth of information you guys are, it did seem really really odd having concrete in the bottom of a bowl. At first I thought it was a planter, duh! OK, so, how did you get to knowledgeable?!!
