I don't like glass clowns but have this one because it's Japanese and I wanted a look at it.

I have seen a number of clowns from Italy, and a lot attributed to Italy, so I thought I would get one to examine and compare.

It is well made like a Murano clown and the idea of making the clown into a bowl or vase was used by the Italians as well.
What sets this apart for me is the spatter and also the impressed ring in the moulded base. Most of the photos I have seen of known Japanese clowns show these features.

To complicate things I have recently seen some nicely made clowns from China. They are generally without spatter but have really well detailed features in primary colours. The ones I saw had a cross hatched pattern on the base.

I don't like clowns at all, which is why I love my bronze hobo clown, LOL! Yours is very pretty because it's a vase instead of just a figure.

Hey now, come on, girls, ya gotta love clowns!..... lol ..... My favorite clowns are hobo clowns (like Bonnie's???)..... Clowns like Bozo the Clown and Krusty the Clown (on The Simpsons), I gotta admit, kinda creep me out, though!!! [;>)))

I so agree Bonnie. I didn't want a figure for just that reason. Thanks :)

Thanks for the comparison details. I saw a real Murano Clown at an antique mall last week. Unfortunately, there was a piece chipped off. And the price was too high for the condition. But it was quality for sure.

Yes the Murano are wonderfully made. Thanks for the comment.
