I picked up this cool chair recently. I really like the way it looks and am considering refurbishing it if possible. I am interested to know the history of the piece and whether or not it may be valuable. The upholstery is affixed directly to the wood with tiny metal sequins or something--classic looking chair. No identification marks could be found. I also have a back-up.

These are called press back chairs and are typical of the very late 19th/ early 20th century.

The design was pressed into the wood and meant to bring "carved" furniture to the masses. They were very inexpensive at the time of manufacture and sold by the millions. The additional "upholstery" piece is a step up from the usual and probably just some sort of applied piece.

These aren't worth a great deal, so worthy of a do it yourself/ inexpensive refurbishment.
