This was just so unusual, I had to post and ask if anyone knows anything about them. They have hex nuts and "John Scott made in England" on the dials. i am expecting them to be reproductions or a matching of old and new. Any thoughts?
I have a pair of these that were purchaced from an antique dealer in Charleston, SC some 35 years ago.
He traveled to England once or twice a year and told the story of these as well as other designs he had for sale. According to him some company he did business with found and purchaced the original tooling for a bunch of these old lamps and lanterns and began producing them again. Therefore, these would be considered a continued production rather than reproductions.
There was a burner available to convert to electric if desired, it had all the knobs for wicks and snuffer but where the wick came through, there was a socket base for standard bulb. The pot of course had to be drilled to feed in the wire so that ruined the lamp for use with oil.
I had an antique and jewelry store back then and sold a couple of these sets as well as other designs.
Hope this helps with your quest although I'm relying strictly on what I was told by this fellow so, it may or may not be the absolute gospel truth. As you know antique dealers are sometimes prone to embellishment of the facts but, it sounds plausable to me and the quality of materials and workmanship is far beyond anything I've seen in reproduction items so, I tend to accept the story as told.
