Found this at a flea market and couldn't resist, while it may not be a "pedal car", it is however a "ride-on", which is in the same category. Made by: Minnitoys: Otaco Ltd, Ontario.

Thanks Otaco4me. Do you know what year this would have first appeared as an offering from the Otaco company? This off-white accent colour on mine is something I can't seem to locate on another version, and this is not a faded or age-altered white.....the underside of the handle bars is a pristine and fresh beige colour as well. I also noted that some of the ones I've found online have solid rubber tires (like mine) and others have steel wheels with a rubber tire mounted on it. On a final note there also appears to be two different pressed steel front sections. One is more pronounced than the other with a convex headlight (like mine) while others have less pronounced features and a concave headlight. Any thoughts on these observations would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure of the production run on this train. I put up another pic but detail in pic isn't great. Researching Minnitoys is challenging, and even living less than 5 minutes from the long since closed offices/plant, doesn't help me too much. Almost never see any of the Minnitoys in the wilds, so hard to ever compare 2 side by side. Not seen any reference on a two-part wheel. Canadian toy history is always a challenge due to poor record keeping, low production runs, etc. Keeps the hobby interesting.

Here is an ebay auction for a Canadian Flyer with the headlight and wheels that are different from mine. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIG-RARE-1950s-MINNITOYS-CANADIAN-FLYER-RIDE-ON-TOY-TRAIN-ORIGINAL-CONDITION-/301974089348

I know why it is so heavy. To build up muscles so they can carry a case of Molson under each arm when they get older, eh !
