i have a lot of sake cups now, but this is one of the tiniest. i picked it up at Goodwill the other day. pretty sure it's japanese.

Could very well be Japanese. If it is, then it probably had a small MADE IN JAPAN sticker on the bottom that's come off, indicating 1960s to current production for export trade.
thank you NevadaBlades. it may also have been made for use inside Japan.
My wife says if the cup was made by a private, individual potter working for him/herself, then yes, it may have been made without any marks. But if the cup was made by a company, especially for domestic use, then it would more than likely have some kind of mark on it, either painted on it or stamped (etched) onto it. Without knowing its history, I think it's almost impossible to say for sure one way or the other. [;>)
