This trench art piece really shows the resourcefulness of the craftsman. He collected numerous soldier and battlefield items to assemble the model.
The hull is made from 2 joined rifle shells.
The deck is a clip for rounds that has been shortened.
The stacks are .45 casings.
A crossed rifle insignia (US Infantry) has been split and holds the front rigging.
The standing base is out of split bullets.
A small brass piece was used to model the working propeller.
Overall, I think it is a good representation of a WW1 era sub.

No problem scott!!! Youve got the best hoard of trench art!! Thanks again for your input on my trophy/hate belt :)
I appreciate it. I have been collecting and researching for a long time!
Your belt is a nice example-- I have the photos, but I don't own an example YET. I used to see them all the time, but they don't appear on the market as often nowadays.

Ya ive been collecting for 2 years, ever since i inherited almost all my grandfathers antiques when he passed, hes the one in the post i have, the sailor picture :)
Sounds like he gave you a big "head start" with collecting.
Do the research as you add to your collections. With the internet there is access to some great items, but there are also a ton of fakes and fantasy pieces out there (you can see a lot on here). Research is much easier and I am always willing to help out, as are many other CW collectors.
Thanks again,
scott
