I am so fortunate that my family documented our history through photographs and letters. I love this photo of my grandmother taken around 1915.

It's wonderful !!! I love it
Thanks so much, TassieDevil and officialfuel!
So glad that Cracker Barrel does not have all of the family photos! Glad yours are saved! Nancy
Me too CardinalLady! I have a glorious portrait of my great grandfather, Pop Louie, a handsome Frenchman who wore many hats in his hometown. I will post him one day soon.
Thanks once more for the loves!
And there we see the fashion fad of the 18 inch waist, pulled tight as one could bear it, My grandmother was 4 mos pregnant and unaware , she fainted and the Dr, discovered it after unlacing!! We must admit--it made for a very "fine figure of a woman" back when. Sweet photo and so wonderful to have it!!
I cannot imagine the pain they went through! I think they did a lot of fainting! Thanks for the comment PostCardCollector!
I guess that is why every Victorian home had a handy "Fainting Couch"!
That seems so nutty to us, doesn't it?? AND, --we ARE much tougher these days, --we just do it on the floor.
And when my mom was young, most women wore corsets or girdles! Now, I don't know of anyone who owns one.
Can you imagine women today--free and unfettered as birds being confined like that. I can't think of anyone wearing them . Looking really ghastly -but I guess some gents of yore found the laces & garters, and the rubber wiggle in girdle "sexy"
Go figure. .
We've come a long way baby! :)
