Hi Everyone!
Thanks for the visit! I found these gems at a yard sale this past weekend!
I just thought they were pretty good looking vintage cufflinks when I bought them. As I was getting ready to post them at another sight. I look at everything carefully before I do. I was looking for a makers mark of some kind . First I looked at the post and the writing on the posts say 12 KT GF. I figured well that is nice. Then I took out my trusty magnifying glass and looked carefully at the face and the underside of the face. Much to my surprise it is 18 KT!
I am a very skeptical person and thought why would someone put gold filled posts on 18 KT gold beautiful faces? So I looked at the tiny hallmark. I tried to find some information, spent hours looking, to no avail. So I took them to the pawn shop figuring they could at least tell me that they were real or not. Well turns out they are 18 KT at least the faces are! Yippie. In doing so he scratched one up pretty good. UGGH.
Back to the good news is a I still way ahead of the game! :). I paid $5.00 for three older boxes of jewelry. One had these Great cufflinks, the others a sterling silver pendant necklace and the last some krementz costume jewelry. I really scored!
MY question is ... Does anyone know the hallmark? I tried to make it myself as I showed in the photo. It is rough but does depict the general artistry of the mark.
Oh I am guessing but I am figuring these were made in the 60's or early 70's only because a lot of the things at the sale dates back to that time.
Thanks for any help!
These are really nice cuff links, but the mark doesn't mean a thing to me. I think you should take them to a local jeweler and have them properly tested to see if they are actually gold. If there is a heavy layer of gold plating, it is possible for it to register as gold.
Thanks for the help! I did have them tested and yes they are 18kt! Yippie!
Did you take them to a jeweler? The pawn shop dude doesn't sound too reliable, since he managed to damage them with scratches...
Yes, I did take it to a jewelers just a bit ago. Just to make doubly sure. Nice guy he polished it up some too. :)
Good! These cuff links really are beautiful and happen to be my Zodiac sign.
:-))))))
