    Bought this roof snow guard at a yard sale but am perplexed at the hook on the end. Can anyone explain how this works? If it hooks around the edge of the roof, how would the guard be fastened down? Thank you.

      Thank you for your response. There are no holes in the shaft and the space in the hook is 1". I was told by the previous owner that it was a snow guard and it has what appears to be roof tar on it.
