This is my big find for today, and I am especially pleased because the thrift shop employees had no clue where to find the silver marks, of which there are three...on the last loop of the chain...so this was hung together with the costume necklaces. The stone is most likely deep red glass.

Geez, it even LOOKS like silver....

This is an old one and the silver marks are a bugger to read. There is the mark which looks like an old fashioned keyhole frame with the number 2 inside. There is the silver mark for .835 silver - ZII. The third mark are the initials of the silversmith. I think it's "BO". Not sure yet.
    Thanks for looking/loving, everybody.

I think the name of your necklace is a swag necklace, I would say it is from the art nouveau period.

NevadaBlades, you are probably right about swaggering down the road, with a swag necklace, that may be were it got its name from, you never know.

      NB/Jean, from the dictionary:

      http://www.dictionary.com/browse/swag

      Swag:
A suspended wreath, garland, drapery, or the like, fastened up at or near each end and hanging down in the middle; festoon.

Festoon is a more common name for it; it's the same as swag but sounds fancier and does not inspire so many jokes :)

Hiya. Your necklace is German, in the historical style. It's probably Bohemian garnet in the setting, its pretty standard for this style. Rings, bracelets & necklaces are common. Circa 1900. It looks like the chain has been polished but the spacers & drop not. This makes it look like the chain is not original - but it's completely right for the piece. Kyra might know more about this style, she'd see it about.

Hi Jewels1900 - thanks for the info. Not surprised that it's German, as I live 15 min from the border. There are no Dutch hallmarks (I'm in Holland), so I eliminated that idea right away . I haven't done anything to it in the way of polishing - it is just as I bought it from the shop ,with the exception of polishing the last link where the marks are stamped. Kyra's already seen it. :-)))
