My son won this at an auction. It was alittle bit to much but he said it was priceless to him. The only problem is we have not been able to identify what period this radio is from. Any info would help. The more info that is known about the pick just makes it that much cooler. Thanks!
ANPRC- 77 also known as the "prick 77".
It was the standard FM Communications radio for the US Army Infantry from the Viet Nam era through Desert Storm.
Scott
We were using the ANPRC-77 in Germany in 1961.
Thank you so much for your help. This info gave us alot to go on. Its always cool to find the history of a find. He paid $85.00 for it at an auction it came with a helmet as well. I thought it was to much but my son said he would have spent his entire savings on it cause it is priceless to him.
Yes, VietNam era. I've seen hundreds of them in use .
I think these radios bring back memories for a lot of us who used them!
Like Scott says, radios ending in "PRC" were pronounced "prick" - Prick-77, Prick-68, etc. When we had a new soldier come into the unit, one of our gags was to send him to the First Sergeant's office and ask for the "Prick-E8"
(For those not onto the joke, E8 is a First Sergeant's pay grade)
