I found this vase at a collectors fair in Sydney two months ago. I had seen the mark before and knew that it was Amphora. The seller wanted very little for it. It needed to be saved.
I think it has a portrait of Alexander the Great on Bucephalus. Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel Amphora, a pottery factory in Trnovany, Czech Republic (Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia Austria). I love the subdued gilding and the colour tones on these Amphora pieces. I think it is part of the period that the Germans call "Historismus".
Thanks Marty!
