    I am guessing this is an inkwell. Metal seems to be tin, or copper.

    Any ideas of manufacture or age?

      It's a Victorian gilt brass inkwell with pen rest, circa 1897. Manufacturer unknown unless there is a mark on it somewhere.

      I found another one online exactly like this one. I used Google Images and made a photo search.
